In 2020, Mandy Cooper introduced us to Play Music on the Porch Day.
This event is held on the last Saturday of August. and is an International Day of music which began with a simple idea back in 2013. The idea is that music is powerful and universal and goes beyond words. When you pick up an instrument and start to play the world disappears and you get lost in the sounds.
The idea is to just go outside and play music - share our talents, our passions, and our music. Together let us show the world the power that music holds to transcend the most difficult barriers.
Members of LUKES in the Bayside Area will be participating this Saturday 27th August, 2022..
A number of people have volunteered to host other members of LUKES who would like to participate using their "porches" - the idea being a "LUKES Progressive Play Music on the Porch Day".
As you will see from the draft program attached, it will begin at 9am at a beachbox on Aspendale Beach and wind its way around the Bayside suburbs of Parkdale, Hampton, Beaumaris and Mordialloc, till late afternoon. Work out a time you're available and choose the porch.
Use the member list on the website to contact the host/hosts of the porch/es you'd like to play on and they can furnish you with their full address/es. Don't forget your song books, music stand and instruments.
There are still a couple of spare time spots in the program, so if you'd like to make your porch available please contact Rosie Johnston and we'll include you in the program.
This is a fun way of participating in this International event and sharing the joy of music we are lucky to experience each week, with your neighbourhood. And of course these things are always more enjoyable shared with your LUKES friends - there's always power in numbers and really makes it an event.
