Description: | ![]() Considered one of the greatest songwriters of all time, Bob Dylan has been a major figure in popular culture over his 60-year career. With an estimated figure of more than 125 million records sold worldwide, he is one of the best-selling musicians of all-time Dylan added increasingly sophisticated lyrical techniques to the folk music of the early 1960s, infusing it "with the intellectualism of classic literature and poetry". His lyrics incorporated political, social and philosophical influences, defying pop music conventions and appealing to the burgeoning counterculture. “The recent release of the movie “No Direction Home”, a biopic covering the early career of Bob Dylan in the early 1960’s has raised awareness of the impact that he had on music and popular culture. Paul Wadeson has compiled a songbook of fifty songs entitled “The Bob Dylan Songbook For Ukulele” and selected (with great difficulty), twenty four of these songs to be played at LUKES Mentone over two weeks. Many of these songs may be familiar, although performed by other artists, and some may not be familiar to many people. On April 17th we will workshop eight of these songs in four groups. On April 24th, we will perform all twenty four songs as shown on the attached songlist and songbook. Please contact Paul Wadeson by email at wadesonpl@bigpond.com to express your interest in leading or taking part in any of these songs.” Song Book and song list to be added. |
