LUKES BREAKING NEWS
Tuesday nights at Carrum Activity Hub
We have received the following information via Kingston Council during April about an update to the Covid rules.
From the My Community Life web page:
COVIDSafe settings for clubs and community groups |
Many of our 400+ community groups and organisations have re-opened their doors for 2021 and resumed face-to-face programs and activities. This is a much welcome time for our community to reconnect and enjoy time together.
Key points to stay COVIDSafe:
- There are no patron caps or groups limits, but you must apply the 1 person per 2 square metres of publicly accessible floorspace rule and use electronic record keeping
- If using manual record keeping you must apply the 1 person per 4 square metre rule
- Maintain records of all people who attend the venue for 28 days including first name and contact phone number
- Food and drinks can be served as part of a club meeting or gathering.
- Avoid serving food that requires shared utensils or serving spoons
- You do not need to change to disposable cutlery if you normally use reusable cutlery and crockery
Note: We think it is wise to bring your own coffee mug to Carrum. The cupboard containing our beverages and bikkies may have moved to another space and there is the option to lock the cupboard.

In relation to Mentone, we should keep the same physical distancing as Carrum. We have noticed that there is a tendency to forget about physical distancing in the breaks and around dinner time.
|
|
|
|
A common cold virus is doing the rounds, and we ask everyone who is attending either venue and who has a cold, to please stay at home. It would also be a good idea to have a COVID test.

The LEGS group is up and running and has two gigs booked for early May – one for the Level Crossing Authority at the Mentone station opening to take place on Saturday 1 May and one for View Club, Chelsea on 8 May. In the past we have also provided entertainment in aged care facilities.
If you would like to join the Entertainment Group, please contact Mandy Cooper via gigs@longbeachukes.com.au

UKULELE CLUB SONGBOOKS Volumes 1&2 (GREY BOOKS) FOR SALE |
|
|
|
We recommend you consider purchasing these books. There are two volumes, each containing about 250 songs that have been specially selected for Ukulele Clubs. These two volumes are chock full of well-known tunes. We will arrange to have 10 of each song book available for a bulk order price of $34 per book, and we can purchase additional copies according to demand. The LEGS group will be using these for their performances.

|
|
|
When a list of songs is posted for a forthcoming session, feel free to add your name to stand up and help lead the song, even if there is someone else’s name already on the list.

We have launched very successfully from February to April this year, after being locked down with our old friend Zoom last year. Our new 2-venue option seems to be working well. At last count, we had 76 financial members. Those who have agreed to develop and run sessions at Carrum and Mentone have done a magnificent job and we thank them for their dedication to the cause. We also warmly welcome several new members who have come to us via Paul and Peter’s Bayside U3A group. They have already added energy and talent to our ranks.

LUKES has some superfluous assets for sale – several microphones and a whiteboard.
If you may be interested, the items are stored at Carrum and you can discuss with Andrew Hesketh before we put them on eBay.
