12 members of LUKES took part in the launch of Seniors' Week & 8 days of free public transport for Seniors yesterday along with UKE CRAZY,
Not only did we play
"Happy Together" but were photographed in a variety of poses: under the clocks at Flinders Street Station, on a train, on various platforms, at Federation Square and even doing an Abbey Road, walk over the pedestrian crossing between the station and Fed Square. All great fun and the energy was worth bottling. We even managed a flash mob situation, whilst practising Happy Together in the atrium at the station before our actual gig began, We were left dumbfounded by the huge numbers of people who stopped to film us or simply to bask in the joy of our singing.
Many thanks to Mandy Cooper for co-ordinating this event for us - it was such an uplifting experience.
We even featured on the Channel 9 news along with the Minister for Ageing and the Minister for Transport.
This coming Sunday, 6th October will feature a
UKULELE MASS PERFORMANCE at Celebration Day as part of the
SENIORS FESTIVAL at Federation Square at around 3pm.
Because they are aiming to bring as many people as possible to Federation Square for this workshop, from across the state, and because that will mean providing options for players of different abilities AJ Leonard has created players toolkits for two song options – with both songs being played en masse on Celebration Day. So, you can choose to join in for one song or both. Up to you. These will be available once you register. The easier song is Happy Together sung by The Turtles, in the key of Gm (we perform it in Am) and the The Real Thing made famous by Russell Morris is for more advanced players
To register for this event which already has around 700 participants, please click on the following link: the music and instructional videos will be given. The song sheets will be projected up on the big screens at Fed Square.
